absence makes the heart grow fonder…

reflect by you.

familiarity breeds contempt.  this is just my way of telling you I’m going to be out of your hair for a while.  til sept.  at least here, but i’ll be peeking in on you during that time to see what you are up to.  i’m going to work on eating that elephant, and getting a monthly meal plan in place (damn, i’m hopelessly optimistic.  one of these days i’m going to give up on trying to be an organized person.), and get the kids off to school.  we were gone last week on our mini vacation.  it wasn’t hawaii, but it had it’s charms.  and i’m going to be honest here – i love to canoe/kayak, i love nature hikes, i enjoy overnight bicycle trips, but i only tolerate camping.   and i barely tolerate camping out of a canoe.  where you load all your crap, float down the river, set up camp, get up the next day, pack up all your crap, float down the river and do it all again.  and you get to sleep on hard, lumpy rocks.  and there’s no where to sit comfortably.  and there are no private toilet/changing facilities.  actually no toilet facilities to speak of at all.  i’m just saying.

  1. i’ve missed you, jackie!

    i haven’t canoe-camped since i was 25. i have a feeling the romance may be gone for me…

  2. Those are positively stunning photos! My son was standing behind me and gasped and said…”WHERE IS THAT, MOM??” Obviously I am not the only one smitten with them. 😉 You rule, missy!

Such fantastic photos. Truly, fantastic. I like camping, but I don’t like setting up camp or breaking down camp. I’ve backpacked and kayaked from camp to camp. Fortunately the cool goings on during the day got me through but luckily with the little ones all we can handle is base camping. Much nicer.
